to the Joint Committee of the British
Chamber of Commerc3 and China Association
on 10th December, as already reported in my
telegram No. 308. Upon the receipt of the
reply contained in your telegram No. 378 that
you would prefer that the views contained in
your telegram under reference should not be
communicated to the Hongkong Chamber, the
Joint Committee of the British Chamber of
Commerce and China Association held a further
meeting on December 19th and after full dis-
oussion embodied their views in a letter,
copy of which I have the honour to enclose,
